5 Veg Friendly Restaurants

One of the easiest ways to lower your carbon footprint is to choose a plant-based meal! Why? Well… animal agriculture is responsible for more C02 emissions than all human transportation activities. So pick a veggie burger, ok? These 5 places make it easy:

1. Native Foods Cafe

With a few locations around the city, this national chain serves only vegan food! With everything from burgers to taco salads, Native Foods serves quick meals perfect for lunch breaks in the Loop. My recommendation: GET THE SWEET POTATO FRIES

218 South Clark Street Chicago, IL 60604

1484 North Milwaukee Avenue Chicago, IL 60622

1023 West Belmont Avenue Chicago, IL 60657

2.Hannah’s Bretzel

This sandwich shop is far from exclusively plant-based, but the few plant-based options it has are great! And, if you don’t do veggie eating, even the meat ingredients are sustainably sources (to the extent that meat can be sustainable…). With nine Chicago locations, it’s easy to pop in for a “veggie bomb” sandwich (vegan) or an “angry tofu” sandwich (vegetarian).

Loop Locations:

66 W. Randolph St.

180 W. Washington

131 S. Dearborn

107 S. Franklin

3. Chicago Raw

A little pricier than some other vegan options in the city, Chicago Raw is, as the name would suggest, completely raw. If you’re looking for raw vegan carrot cake or muffins, this is your place. One of their two locations is in the French Market at Ogilvie Station, so stop by during your commute.

51 W. Huron

131 N. Clinton

4. LYFE Kitchen

LYFE Kitchen is another place to grab a quick, plant-based, bite during the weekday. They have a solid breakfast menu with oatmeal, chia pudding, and a veggie wrap. The lunch menu includes salads, bowls, and sandwiches. I recommend the quinoa crunch bowl!

1538 N. Clybourn Ave

831 N. State St.

413 N. Clark St.

5. Green Zebra

Parents in town? Need a nice date restaurant? Want to treat yourself? This is the place. Their website describes the restaurant as a “unique dining experience that celebrates the fresh produce of each season.” BINGO. Everything on the menu is vegetarian and much can be made vegan. DOUBLE BINGO.

Location: 1460 W. Chicago Ave.
