New Favorite Place: The Dill Pickle Food Co-op

Today I ventured into The Dill Pickle Food Co-op and I AM IN LOVE. This place has exactly what we need to live sustainably. Bulk section! Package free shampoo!  Vegan options! This store is a vegan and low-waste wonderland.

The Dill Pickle Food Co-op Co-op members receive special discounts, but anyone can shop here. They aim to provide sustainable and healthy food at reasonable prices.

LOOK AT THIS. They have soap and shampoo bars without packaging.  8 million tons of plastic end up in the ocean each year, so everything you can do to lower your waste footprint is worthwhile.

img_3051.jpgAnother easy way to lower your plastic usage is to shop in bulk. The Dill Pickle Food Co-op is one of the only places in Chicago that lets you bring your own containers for bulk shopping. Think of all the plastic containers you can save buying tea, nuts, coffee, beans, quinoa, rice, and candy in bulk!!!

This store made my little plant-based heart so happy. Along with bulk bins galore, there were reasonably priced vegan yogurts, which can be hard to find, and vegan donuts! It is so great to see low-waste and sustainable options becoming more available in Chicago. I can’t wait to come back here again and again.

  1. I haven’t been yet! It’s on my list! How many containers did you bring with you?

    1. I just stopped by randomly while in the area and ended up just grabbing cacao powder (worthwhile impulse buy, I’d say). I’m going to go back with my containers later this week!!
